Congregational Care

Congregational Care describes what is distinctive about the church of Jesus Christ. As we grow in God’s love, we learn that such love compels us to care for each other much as family members care for each other.
The purpose of Congregational Care is to extend the reach of the Rector to care for all our members as Christ would for His own, both by ministering to them and teaching them to minister to one an other. In addition to providing marriage preparation, counseling, regular visitation and instruction in the Christian walk, we also direct several specialized ministries within the church including Stephen Ministry, PrimeTimers, DivorceCare, GriefShare, and Living Waters.
Summer 2012 Opportunities for Growth
Congregational Care is continually seeking to provide opportunities that will enable every member to live their lives more effectively. We are privileged to offer the following ministries for this summer. For more detailed information; or you may contact the Congregational Care office at 404-564-3159, or email gwiley@apostles.org.
A Summer Group for Men
Tuesday nights, May 15 – August 7 (excluding July 3)
7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Room 229A
Cost: $10
We will study the characteristics of a godly man, using Thomas Watson’s book, The Godly Man’s Picture. Each meeting includes testimony, teaching, and small-group discussion and prayer. This is an opportunity for men to get to know other men. Walk in alone, walk out with friends. Attend any weeks you can. Men from past summer groups say that this group was a life-changing experience:
“I was expecting a tame Sunday scholo-type class. What I got instead was an honest look at the deep needs men often have but are afraid to examine. I am so glad that the group started me on that path to freedom.”
“I can’t put a finger on the ‘mysterious power’ of hearing and discussing the testimonies each week, but it raised my spiritual antenna to see what God is doing in my life and maximized my receptivity to the Holy Spirit.”
“I went thinking I wanted a Bible Study, but God showed me that I needed a healing ministry—and that is exactly what I found—Him healing my wounds.”

A Summer Group for Women: The Ways of God
Tuesday nights, May 15 – August 7 (excluding July 3)
7:00 – 8:45 p.m.
Room 231
Book: $15.00 (available for purchase in class)
We will study the book, The Ways of God: Working Through Us to Reveal Himself to a Watching World by Henry T. Blackaby and Roy T. Edgemon. Have you ever wondered how God is at work in this world? How is God accomplishing His purposes and revealing His will to His people, ever molding them into holy people in order to enter into a relationship with them? In addition, we will face the tough question, “How can God be sovereign and allow suffering?” And we will discuss some of the things that separate us from God: approval addiction, performance trap, the blame game, and shame. Learn how to see your worth through God’s eyes!

Our Congregational Care staff seeks to minister to each individual’s need whether it is spiritual, physical, or emotional. We do this through personal and hospital visitation, individual, pre-marital and marital counseling, utilizing our Stephen Ministers, or hosting a variety of outreach ministries and support groups.
