Breakthrough Living – The Book of Acts

Bob Brackin
Room 242

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV)

We continue our spiritual journey through the New Testament in the chronological order in which the books were written. We started our study of Acts last year and will continue studying Acts, Luke’s history of the early church. Acts focuses on the Great Commission, the last words of Jesus before he ascended into Heaven, and the power of the Holy Spirit as He empowered and guided the ministries of Peter, Paul, and others to fulfill that Commission and expand the church beyond Jerusalem to the Gentiles. Despite resistance and persecution, these early apostles and saints persevered in living and sharing their faith. Their examples strengthen and encourage us today as we, the church, continue to fulfill Jesus’s Great Commission and respond to God’s call on us to faithfully live for His Kingdom in a culture becoming increasingly hostile to the faith.

These interactive, discussion-oriented teachings are led by a group of class members who are mature in the faith, who love God’s Word, and who align their daily walk with their heavenly calling. This approach provides a rich variety of experiences, perspectives, interpretations, and insights that guide us as we study God’s Word and incorporate it into our daily lives.

Conversion Clarity

James Saxon
Room 229 ABC

The Conversion Clarity course is designed to help believers, or those considering Christianity, fully comprehend the salvation experience that springs out of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many people are struggling in their spiritual journey, because they are trying to function with either a shallow or shaky foundation. The course is taught in a discovery format through small groups observing related scripture passages with a facilitator and is highly participative. The desired outcome is to develop in participants a thorough understanding of the full implications of having a healthy, functional relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Family Connection:
Applying the Gospel to Family Life

Cris Jackson
Room 620-623

Families need the Gospel. The home is where the Church must first and foremost live out the Gospel. Our class desires to be a community of families that walk alongside one another in bringing the Gospel to the home. Each Sunday, we seek to build community by eating breakfast, reading Scripture, and praying together. Currently, our teaching time focuses on family life in Paul’s letter to the Romans, the philosophy of the Christian family, and family discipleship practices. Each lesson involves a table group conversation discussing biblical truths that can be implemented personally. As we leave each Sunday, numerous resources — from books to podcasts — are suggested to encourage, equip, and reinforce the discipleship of your family. We hope you will join us in this pursuit — Applying the Gospel to Family Life!

Jesus’ Revelation to John

Lee Holston
Room 243
In-Person or Online

We will try to explain Jesus’s Revelation through other scriptures, such as the Old and New Testaments, without resorting to theologies. Jesus was always careful to include explanations of his difficult parables, and to some degree, that is true here. Deuteronomy says that a fact is established on the witness of two, so we will look for confirming scriptures to establish facts.

The Books of 1 and 2 Thessalonians

Roger Hill
Room 237 ABCD

1 and 2 Thessalonians are Paul’s Eschatology Epistles (his two letters to the believers in Thessalonica). Eschatology is quite a challenging subject and is often avoided by many because everybody’s views are different. Paul and Silas were there less than four weeks, but this did not stop them from addressing this topic! These were brand new believers, yet Paul was already teaching about eschatology – the return of Jesus Christ and the study of the “end times.” In the first letter, we will learn about Jesus’ return in the air to gather the saints. Then, in the second letter, we will learn about the “man of lawlessness” and Jesus’ return to earth to establish His rule and Kingdom. This gives us a great opportunity to pull in great truths from the Old Testament all the way into Revelation. Whichever way you look at “end times,” remember that we don’t get into Heaven based on being pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trib, but on our relationship with Jesus Christ and that alone! What a blessing!

James says God is the source of every good gift we ever receive. Please join our class to taste and see the many gifts that God showers on us.

Come and join us as we discover the truths Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus that were relevant to both the 1st Century and for all who have followed. In addition to the truths and related applications, we will have the opportunity to know what Paul meant when he wrote that we are “in Christ” and all that means!
