HEARTBOUND MINISTRIES

HeartBound believes that a prison system can be more than just a place where people “serve time.”  We believe a prison system can be a place where  lives are healed, transformed, and restored.  HeartBound Ministries is a non-profit outreach organization that supports and equips the work of Georgia prison chaplains and provides programs and resources to meet the needs of the prison community — correctional staff, inmates, and their families — changing the culture from one of crime and incarceration to hope and restoration.  Since 2003, HeartBound has partnered with prison chaplains and volunteers to provide substance abuse counseling, literacy services, computer labs and instruction, life skills training, parenting classes, spiritual guidance and other life-changing programs for youth and adult offenders and their families.

Options for serving this ministry

Returning Hearts Celebration:
An event that unites children and their incarcerated parent on the prison grounds for an unforgettable day of games, food, crafts, relationship building and biblical teaching to facilitate the healing process and break the cycle of crime and incarceration in families. Volunteers are needed to assist fathers and their children, serve food, run games, and more. To sign up, click on the Returning Hearts Celebration link at http://www.heartboundministries.com

Christmas Bag Packing:
Each December, HeartBound travels to Georgia prisons to pack and distribute care bags containing hygiene, snacks and Christian literature to each inmate. Sign-ups begin in October. To sign up or learn more, contact Andrea Shelton at aheartbound@comcast.net

100 Shares Visitation Center at Metro Transitional Center on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month:
The 100 Shares Children’s Visitation Center at Metro Women’s Transitional Center provides a space where children and their incarcerated mothers can bond, craft, play, read, relax and enjoy a meal in a fun, family-friendly setting. Volunteers can adopt a Saturday morning by providing a meal and witness the “blessing of normalcy” as children and their incarcerated mothers reconnect.

Little Readers Program:
The Little Readers program allows children of incarcerated parents to see and hear their incarcerated loved one reading a book for them via DVD.  The program also places children’s books in prison visitation rooms so that children can read and bond with their incarcerated loved one during visitation. Volunteers can donate new or gently used books to this program or record mothers at Metro Transitional Center reading for their children.
